Louisiana received approval from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to issue permits for underground storage of carbon dioxide emissions, making it the third state to receive this authority.

EPA's action will ease the permitting backlog and allow Louisiana to handle permits for 22 projects that are currently awaiting review and approval.
