The European Commission warned EU countries this week they are falling behind on their core climate targets and without stronger emissions-cutting policies risk missing the goal, Reuters reported.

The EU is known internationally as a climate champion, but domestically it is struggling with similar issues as the rest of the world: continued fossil fuel subsidies and prolonged use of coal.
