Efforts to reduce the amount of methane burning at Turkmenistan's 60-mile wide Darvaza Crater (dubbed the 'Gates of Hell') are paying off, according to Bloomberg.

Satellite data show a 50% decrease since August. That is a sign of progress considering this crater was deliberately set on fire half a century ago.
