Britain’s thousands of wind turbines grabbed their biggest slice of the electricity mix ever in December, sending output from gas-fired plants to their lowest in almost four years, Bloomberg reported.

The parallel news was that the country also plans to extend the lives of four nuclear reactors to ensure there's enough baseload supply. More intermittent power also calls for sufficient backup power.
